In June 2021, Hawthorn Estates welcomed Mr Reid Lewis into the Design team as the Architectural Director.

Reid is a RIBA Chartered Architect who has joined Hawthorn Estates to develop Hawthorn Design Partnership, providing architectural design services for our clients.

He brings over thirty years of Architectural expertise, together with hands-on construction and design experience, that fits perfectly with the Hawthorn team’s skill set.

Reid specialises in the Residential, Heritage, Leisure and Sustainability sectors. However, he has gained vast experience in many different fields through his working life. The combination of low-carbon design married to conservation principles is considered unique in the architectural field. He regularly speaks to schools, colleges, and business groups on sustainable design principles.

A proud Geordie, Reid was born in Newcastle-upon Tyne and is enthusiastic about his family roots. Although Reid has a more diverse education than most, he was educated in Iran, Turkey, Orkney, Scotland, and finally at the famous Rugby School at Barnard Castle.

The Lewis family have lived in many countries due to Reid’s father’s work in the petro-chem construction sector.

Whilst initially studying chemical engineering, Reid discovered his passion for architecture.

At seventeen, Reid began his work experience in Hartlepool as an architectural apprentice.

He then went on to attended Leeds Metropolitan University, where he received the GRADUS detail in the design award for his Graduate Diploma project. Reid graduated with Honors in Architecture and is a RIBA approved Architect and Conservation Registrant.

Reid has received numerous local and national awards, including the prestigious International Green Apple Award, for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage, in 2008.

As the Construction Development Alliance (CDA) co-chair, Reid has enjoyed supporting the up and coming construction professionals from around the North West. Helping to organise the CDA Awards evening, hosted every two years, along with George Clarke, Dom Littlewood and Charlie Dimmock, to name a few.

Reid has a hands-on approach to construction, having restored several dwellings, himself, including his latest heritage project, in his locally listed farmhouse.

Not all work and no play type of person, Reid is an avid skier that enjoys taking to the slopes with friends and family in Soll, Austria. Not one to shy away from adventure Reid would happily try any holiday activity.

Reid also enjoys reading fictional literature.

Reid is married to Siobhan Lewis, an award-winning artist whose work is online.

Siobhan has won the Society for all artists (SAA) amateur artist of the year and has been exhibited at the Howarth Art Gallery and the Fusiliers Museum, located in Bury.

Together they have three children and three grandchildren, who are the pride of their life.
